The latest: A fully functional "Save System" is now in place; created a small area for stress-testing the quest system

  • New System: Save System

     I'd never built a save system for a project like this before, and there was a bit of a learning curve, but "game saves" are now up and running! All relevant info (quest state, player stats, inventory, location, etc) can now be saved to disc and reloaded at a later time. The user interface is not finished, but it'll do for now. Pressing F1 / F2 will now save game state in SaveSlot 1 / SaveSlot2 respectively.

  • QuestTest area

     I created a new area for testing out the quest system.  I want to make sure the system can handle situations like a full quest journal (atm, max of 16 quests active at a time). The quest types I have in place at the moment are: Kill, Escort, Gather, and Travel. The amount of rewards given is to help me test out the inventory system for situations when qty of an item exceeded the max (99).

Most of the major systems for the game are in place (albeit unpolished): Combat, Quests, Dialogue, Inventory, Saving, Interactables, PartySelection. The last major system I plan to incorporate is a progression system, i.e. a system that determines what "level up" looks like (skill trees, stat increases, position bonuses, etc). Before I get to that, however, I'm planning to flesh out the rest of the playable characters, their roles, and what skills they will acquire over the course of the game, while continuing to maintain and polish the existing systems. Once I have an idea of what the "end-game" should look like, I plan to work backwards from there. There is still much to be done, but I'm taking it one step at a time.
